It's hard to believe I'm already 2 months into this journey. I guess time does fly when you're having fun. I figure now is as good a time as any to review how things have gone over the past 60 days.
I would say I've done some very nice work on my swing so far. I haven't made any drastic changes but I have started to clean up some areas to gain some consistency and speed. The consistency is already starting to show up every time I hit the course, I am hitting more quality iron shots and my tee shots are better as well. Speed has been a slower (pun not intended) process, but I'm starting to see some results there as well. The switch to a players cavity back iron in the Mizuno's
has helped with speed/distance. Just yesterday I was getting my 8 iron to a ball speed of 120mph (that's a 6 mph jump). I've backed off trying so hard with driver for the moment, hoping that the fitness routine and swing work will bring that speed up naturally.
My short game and wedges are getting better as well. My distance control and trajectory with distance wedges has greatly improved. I need to focus some time on short pitches/chips from 40 yards and in. I've struggled with spin control on these shots which has led to distance control issues.
Putting has been as solid as it has ever been in my life. I truly believe its the strength my game at the moment. I no longer get down on myself when putts don't drop, I know its just a matter of time before they drop in bunches. I do need to watch my setup, that does seem to get sloppy at times. Overally I'm very happy with where I'm at and where my putting game is heading.
Lastly there is the fitness side. I've done some good work over the last 6 weeks, but if I'm being honest with myself I know I need to be more dedicated to the routine. I've lost 12 pounds since starting, and I know my overall strength is up. I need to continue my work on my flexibility, as that has always been an issue for me. The fitness side will be a big focus as we go into this off season because playing opportunities will be far and few between.
All in all I'm pretty happy with the progress over this 60 days. I've still got 7 months before the qualifying starts. Lots of work to do, so I better get to it. Until next time... KEEP IT IN THE SHORT GRASS!
