It was another very busy day in the store for lessons. I didn't have much time to work on much during the day, but I was able to sneak in some time for the wedges. I know I say I work on wedges a lot, but all data points to that 65% of all strokes come from 120 yards and in. I need to be near an elite level with my wedges and short irons to make up for my lack of elite distance.
I did get to play 9 holes today in the 9@5 at South Hampton. We played a full 4 man scramble, so its difficult to know what I would have shot but I did hit a lot quality shots. I only hit 1 shot poorly but I did miss it in the correct spot if I were playing my own ball. I was able to shape shots both directions today with all my clubs. The greens are still recovering from being punched last week so there were some funny bounces and putting was near impossible. Going over the round I hit 5/7 fairways, 9/9 greens and 17 putts. I made 2 birdies on my own ball. I likely would have shot 34 on my own ball today. Thanks to my buddy Tony and his range finder, I was able to get an average drive distance (270 yards). I need a full 20 yards off the tee to be competitive. Getting the fitness routine going will be a big step in getting the needed yardage.
Tomorrow is shaping up to be another busy day of lessons, so I hope to be able to get some practice time in. I would like to work on my iron game and some short game pitch shots from 10-30 yards.
So until tomorrow, KEEP IT IN THE SHORT GRASS!
